MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER (HAZMAT) (T32)

As a Materials Examiner & Identifier (HAZMAT), WG-6912-07, you will Identify, receive, sort, count, classify and handle hazardous materials in the USPFO storage areas; perform pre-receipt examination of property on site at the generation point and assures that the turn-in and shipping is in order, that the containers meet standards are placarded and marked properly; as appropriate, perform or initiate required testing e.g. radioactive surveys/wipe tests, prepare sample for submission to environmental laboratories for analysis. Schedule the receipt of property and assures that the property is identified to include identification of all contaminants. Physical Effort:
Incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items that weight up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weigh handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Working Conditions:
A requirement for the position:
Hazmat certification and Radiation Safety Training every two (2) years. AREA OF CONSIDERATION:
This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709, and is open to Category 1:
All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency Category 3:
All current military members of the Florida National Guard; and Category 4:
All individuals who qualify for membership in the Florida National Guard and are willing to become T32 Dual Status technicians. First consideration will be given to Category 1. PCS:
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard. MILITARY GRADES:
Enlisted, E6 & Below GENERAL
Experience:
Must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to distinguish between closely related or similar items, ability to follow procedures, ability to sort materials by type, and skill in the use of hand tools? SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Must have at least 12 months experience or training identifying and sorting a variety of complex materials and equipment; experience receiving materials and equipment, recording, and placing items in proper storage areas; experience preparing all items for shipment using appropriate agency instructions; experience in mathematical equations; experience interpreting and using Federal Supply Catalogs, military and manufacturing catalogs, and technical and agency manuals; experience using and operating forklifts and motor vehicles

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
